About the school
UQ College is based in the Sir Llew Edwards Building on University Drive at St Lucia. It offers two English programmes with different destinations. Integrated English is open to learners working on communication for study, employment and daily life. Bridging English is designed for applicants working towards the English requirement attached to a University of Queensland degree offer.
Choosing between the two routes
Integrated English combines group activities with practical listening and conversation tasks. Students can personalise their studies through an elective. Some higher-level groups can also choose a stream, depending on enrolments. The college offers different lengths of study within a twenty-hour teaching week.
A distinction matters for university applicants. Completing Integrated English alone does not grant direct entry to UQ. Bridging English is matched to the learner's proficiency assessment and planned degree start. The Advantage option schedules the final assessment far enough ahead of semester to allow for a possible extension and reassessment.
Learning on the St Lucia campus
Students attend classes in the university environment and can use campus facilities during their stay. For a learner planning both language and degree study, this offers an opportunity to become familiar with St Lucia before semester begins. The proposed degree date and the required English level should guide the choice of intake.
