About the school
Osaka International School of Culture and Language is also known as OBKG or Osaka Bunka Kokusai Gakkō. Its history dates to 1985 and includes the merger of Osaka Kokusai Gakuin and Osaka Bunka Kokusai Gakko. The current school is at 2-11-12 Doshin in Kita Ward. The different names are useful to recognise when reading older accounts of studying Japanese in Osaka or comparing translations of the institution’s name.

The admissions information distinguishes university preparation from a business route. It lists a two-year April programme with university preparation or business as the intended focus, as well as a shorter university preparatory route. A prospective student can use the intended completion date and the nature of the next step to choose between them. An applicant aiming for a university entrance cycle has a different planning horizon from someone looking to use Japanese in a professional setting.
OBKG publishes application periods well before the beginning of teaching. Students comparing intakes should check the period for the specific route and whether the Osaka school can offer the desired specialisation on their dates. The admissions page separates application, enrolment and study-related items, which makes it possible to request a breakdown for the full stay.
