National Taiwan Normal University Mandarin Training Center

National Taiwan Normal University’s Mandarin Training Center, often called MTC, is based on Heping East Road in Taipei. Its office is in the Bo-ai Building, within walking distance of Guting MRT station. The centre offers structured Mandarin study in a university setting, with courses for learners from beginner through advanced levels.

Regular and intensive seasonal study

The main programme follows a quarterly calendar, with an additional shorter summer session. Regular and intensive classes use different teaching arrangements: the regular format combines language classes with supplementary language training, while the intensive format devotes the weekly programme to group language lessons. The distinction is useful when comparing timetables rather than simply counting total study hours.

Teaching addresses listening, speaking, reading and writing. Pronunciation support includes Pinyin, and learners encounter traditional Chinese characters. Placement assessment helps assign students to an appropriate level. Individual tuition and small customised classes offer further possibilities for learners whose goals do not fit the standard group structure.

Language and culture in Taipei

MTC also lists academic support and elective cultural activities, with offerings varying by term. Students can connect classroom Chinese with the surrounding neighbourhood and the wider city. Applications and entry dates follow the centre’s published calendar, so planning ahead matters for seasonal study. Compare the class type, supplementary requirements and intended duration before choosing a programme.
