Alliance Française Cambridge

Alliance Française Cambridge runs French courses for adults at 1 Red Cross Lane in Cambridge. Its regional programme covers Cambridge, Norwich and online teaching. Learners wanting an in-person French class in Cambridge should look at the venue and delivery pattern for the particular group. Some courses described as hybrid meet online for much of the term and bring students together in Cambridge for an occasional classroom session.

Finding the right French class

The Alliance organises its courses around the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. That structure helps a returning student describe what they can already do in French, even if their last lessons were some time ago. The centre provides a level assessment and offers the chance to discuss placement with its course director. Teachers continue to assess the group and the centre allows moves between classes when another level would be a better fit.

An onsite course is especially relevant to a Cambridge resident who wants regular face-to-face practice. A hybrid group may suit someone travelling into the city less frequently. Before choosing a term, check the dates actually spent at Red Cross Lane and the online schedule, since the two formats give learners different opportunities to meet their classmates in person.
