About the school
Anglia Ruskin University’s Cambridge Language Centre is based in the Helmore Building on the East Road campus. Its pre-sessional English course is designed for students preparing to enter a degree at ARU. The purpose of the teaching is closely tied to university entry. An applicant comparing this programme with a general English course should start with the language condition attached to their degree offer.
From English study to a degree
ARU describes an intensive timetable of thirty hours of study per week, with course lengths that depend on the route and the applicant’s needs. There are face-to-face and distance-learning options. Students who choose face-to-face teaching take the English Language Proficiency Test on campus in the final week. Progression requires successful completion of the pre-sessional course and the language standard specified for the degree.
The centre shares its campus with the main library, student services and the students’ union. Dedicated language facilities and teaching rooms elsewhere on campus give incoming students a chance to become familiar with the university environment before their degree work begins. When considering an intake, check that its assessment date and result schedule align with the start of the intended degree and that Cambridge is the location offered for that intake.
