About the school
Taipei Language Institute has a physical branch in Kaohsiung, on the second floor of a building on Zhongshan 2nd Road. Despite the institute's name, students attending this branch study in Qianjin in southern Taiwan. Central Park station on the red MRT line is a short walk away.
A spoken starting point for Mandarin
TLI describes a teaching sequence that gives listening and speaking an early role before developing reading and writing. This is relevant to someone who wants to use Chinese in conversation from the beginning of a stay. The institute offers individual and group formats. In an individual course, the choice of materials can reflect a specific use of the language, such as situations the learner encounters in daily life.
The Kaohsiung branch has also described teaching with traditional or simplified characters. A learner who studied one writing system elsewhere can raise that preference when arranging lessons and deciding how much study time to devote to literacy.
Using Chinese in central Kaohsiung
The branch is close to the Xinjuejiang shopping district, Central Park and the Ziqiang night market. These provide different settings for practising a conversation after class, from asking for directions to ordering food. The MRT also makes this a practical address for learners commuting from another district.
