Soochow University Chinese Language Center

Soochow University’s Chinese Language Center is located at the Waishuangxi campus in Taipei’s Shilin district. Based in Fengya Hall, the centre has offered Chinese-language teaching since 2013. Its programme connects Mandarin study with Taiwanese culture in a university campus environment.

Quarterly study and shorter programmes

The centre offers a quarterly Chinese programme for learners from beginner through advanced levels. Classes develop listening, speaking, reading and writing, with cultural activities adding context to formal language study. This provides an option for students who want a sustained programme rather than a short series of private lessons.

Customised short-term classes and Chinese study camps are also listed. These have their own arrangements and should be considered separately from the regular quarterly timetable. The centre has additionally offered focused grammar-and-conversation teaching, illustrating its emphasis on connecting language structures with practical communication.

Culture and interaction on campus

The programme describes opportunities to practise with local language partners, alongside activities that explore Chinese and Taiwanese culture. These can help students use what they have learned in a less formal setting and build confidence interacting beyond their class.

When comparing Mandarin courses in Taipei, use the Waishuangxi teaching address rather than assume lessons take place at Soochow’s other city locations. Check the current term dates, level availability and any short-course prerequisites before deciding which format best matches the intended stay.
